A Truly Inventive Way to Make Money Online

As I’ve said dozens of times in the past, writers should always be looking for additional income streams.  Ideally, these income streams will take advantage of our ability to write high quality content.  Well, my sister showed me a very interesting site which has the potential to make you a lot of money.  The site is Quirky (no, the site works fine.  The name of the site is ‘Quirky.com’).  Essentially, people submit ideas for new inventions.  Those that get enough votes will be presented to the invention team at Quirky, and if selected, will be actually made.

The person who submits the invention idea then gets a portion of every sale.  This is great for those of us who have had invention ideas, but didn’t have the drive, time or desire to figure out how to actually turn the idea into a real, physical product.  The site has connections with GE, Home Depot and Amazon, among others, so if a product gets made, it can make a lot of money.

Another way to earn money from the site, even if you don’t have any invention ideas, is to help push other ideas along in the development process.  You can answer questions about products that are being considered, such as how much should it cost, what colors it should be and things like that.  You can even help figure out ways to improve the concept or design.  For each area where you contribute, you can earn a small percentage of the total sales.

My brother-in-law just earned about $1000 for his input on a product that was made through the site.  He didn’t even invent it, just gave his $.02 on how it could be improved or marketed better.

In addition, the site is a ton of fun to browse through and look at all the different ideas people are having.  The ideas can be about anything you can imagine.  Submitting an idea only takes a few minutes, and as a writer, you can do a great job ‘selling’ the idea to viewers.  Anyone who reads your sales pitch can then vote on the idea, and if it gets 200 votes, your product will be reviewed and potentially manufactured!

Would Ya Vote for Me?

OK…I admit it.  In addition to loving the site because it is pretty awesome, I also have a slightly selfish motive.  I just submitted a new product and I’m hoping to get a few votes from you, my readers.  I’ll like you to the product I submitted, and if you would be so kind as to take a moment to review it and if you think it is a good idea, vote!  The second link is to a product my sister invented and submitted to the site.

If you are willing (and I truly hope you are!) please follow these simple instructions to register for the site (its free and easy) and then vote for my invention and my sisters.  Then browse around, help other inventors out, submit your own invention (if you do, list it in the comments on this site, I promise I’ll vote for yours!).  It is a lot of fun, free and really easy!

How to Vote:

That’s it!

I can’t tell you how much I appreciate this!  I’ve been sitting on this idea for an invention for a few years, and it is nice to finally TAKE ACTION.  Even if it never gets made, at least I can say I gave it a shot, right?

Thanks! I really appreciate it! The site is really fun, I’m enjoying it so far. Just be careful not to get too distracted looking at all the great new invention ideas that are submitted!

I just saw the Quirky product section at Home Depot and felt even more a part of the special Quirky community. The people there are very helpful and quite willing to help the new people learn how to get their inventions noticed. The Quirky staff really listens to everyone’s ideas and acts on them. It is a fun process. Our home is quickly filling up with Quirky products… Cordies, Pivot Power, Nimbus, some skewer invention…several others. It is a lot of fun!
